Structure painted black

With a "shutdown" for several weeks, this will be the last post for some time. The plan was to get the roof on the house before Christmas, but events conspired against us and the roof has been postponed. Meanwhile we took the opportunity to bring forward the painting of the exposed parts of the structural frame in Satin Black enamel. Relatively easy to do now with the painter in a cage on a knuckle boom lift. The other small jobs done since the last post include tidying up the site and spreading some aggregate over the clay in an attempt to reduce the problem with mud if we get 3mm of rain or more. Although we have had a very dry December it is a struggle to keep the grass alive. An irrigation system is being planned though. Paul and Fiona have gone away for Christmas, so I am once again looking after Tiny. She goes berserk with excitement when I tell her we are going to the block. For the first time she witnessed me using the drone which fascinated her no end. S...

Drone view Paths done

The footpaths are complete, and most of the low wall blocks are in place. This will create an easily accessible terraced garden in future. At the top is the observatory, whose slab is also complete. Underground drainage pipework is also complete, to my great relief. We are "storm ready" at last. Here are the latest drone shots:

Health & Safety

Image
Apologies for the lack of blog entries recently. Things have been so busy, including setting up the site office, and our constant emphasis on health and safety. There is no excuse for any worker on site to not have the correct PPE. Here we have our new apprentice recruit "Tiny". Notice her fully compliant hi-vis attire. Tiny leaves the office for her site induction. Tiny receives site induction from her instructor... She is now busy looking for rubbish such as old bones and carelessly discarded lunches... Tiny takes a break and surveys her pawly work... After a long day's work Tiny returns to the office to clock out.. Here are the column bases Tiny painted with waterproof paint, ready for encasing in concrete.. And here are sone stormwater works Tiny was heavily involved with. She particularly liked the digging. Her eye for detail and straight lines was invaluable.
