Well stone the crows, half the roof is on!

I have just been away to Melbourne for a very long weekend to witness the occasion of my one and only niece, the delightful Bea, getting married to her dapper archeologist beau, Roly.

Meanwhile back at the block, I knew Paul had organised a crane to lift the sheeting on to the roof in preparation for the time when we would at last find a roofing team. I had reason to be pessimistic because we have had many knockbacks by roofers on account of the height and steepness of the roof, let alone their lack of availability before July. With my mind and body completely in another space for five days, you can imagine my surprise and delight to find the roof half done upon my return! Paul cast a wide net to find a team that could do the job and do it now.

In addition to the roof work, our trusty excavator operator has carried half of our topsoil stock pile to backfill the low retaining walls behind the paths. Meanwhile a couple of youths were hired to lay irrigation pipe along the length of the 100m terraced garden. We are a few steps closer to having the terraced garden planted and irrigated.

Paul is so thorough in considering health and safety, that we even had a "rescue" harness in place in case a roofer fell through the roof and found themselves hanging by their own harness. The rescue harness has a pully and rope so that a person could be attached and lowered safely to the ground. You may be able to just make out the rope hanging from the ceiling in some of these photos.
