The Boat Deck

Image
Just another couple of days and the "Boat Deck" was finished. Wonderful spot to toast the sunset on a fine evening. This was built by Andy and Will, my only regulars on the build at present, so progress will be sedately for now as I design the next details ahead of them, just on time. Here are some more shots I took this morning from the drone.

OHS Officer missing

Image
I am feeling quite sad at the moment as it has been over a week since Tiny, my regular companion at the building site, and former neighbour in town, has gone missing. It happened on Friday the 24th October, the day I returned from Newcastle. Paul and Fiona had left her at the block that afternoon and in the space of time between their dropping her off, and my arrival later in the afternoon she had gone missing. In spite of facebook posts and contacting all of the vets and dog pound, no sign of her. She loved being at the block, and would never leave the boundaries, even if left alone there. Paul's theory is that somebody may have come and lured her into their vehicle. Apparently Kelpies are sought after as assistant dogs for pig hunting...

Boat deck and cables

Image
I am now back from Newcastle and was keen to see progress at the block. The boys and Paul have been busy with the cable for the lower path now installed. Much welding has been done to brace the cable supports. The beams and joists to support what we are calling the "boat deck", as will be soon apparent, are mostly in place. The boat deck is the destination for the southern end of footpaths and the ideal spot to toast the setting sun. Here are a few snap shots to give you the picture.

Sojourn to Newcastle

I have taken a few days off to visit Newcastle for a change of scenery. My thoughts can be read on my companion blog at: littlelocaladventures.blogspot.com

A bridge not too far

Image
With the frame finished and inspector satisfied we enter the next phase aimed for lock-up. I just ordered the ground floor windows, so now a wait of six weeks or so before they arrive. In the meantime we are tackling those fiddly extra jobs that will make the house surrounds so much more functional. These include putting up the hand rail cables for the footpaths, a metal rim to protect the concrete edge for the house/shed apron and of course completing the bridge from the house veranda deck to the footpaths. Latest Drone Video

I sent up the drone yesterday, and rather than the usual snaps I tried a little video. My efforts as a film maker are a little ordinary, but I got a some interesting footage. You can download the files from here: https://1drv.ms/f/c/a2e422db1867bd5a/Elq9ZxjbIuQggKKrnwEAAAABpUWP_p4tu44mD_unH1q1Pg?e=P9H5rB Cut and paste the above page address to your browser.

Framed at last

Image
After five months we finally finished the framing with the completion of the gable end frames. The bridge metal work is in place, and the first cables for the footpath handrails has arrived. We have placed the gable barge capping on one end of the roof, with the other end going on next. The engineer has submitted his certification for the metal framing, so all we need now is the certifier to sign off the wooden frame. The champagne will flow when that happens. The next big job is installing windows and cladding. Given that I am yet to order the windows, that will take some time. At this rate I do not expect lockup to be achieved until well into the new year.
