Shed shenanigans

I know it is a while since I last posted, but there has not been a lot happening with the build. I am awaiting delivery of the final windows, which are not expected until later in the month.

Meanwhile I have received the news that my landlord has decided he wants to sell the house I am renting in town. I am not too happy about it. This means I can be asked to leave within 30 days of a sale. Fortunately I was already in the process of de-cluttering and moving stuff to the shed on the block, so that when the time comes I can move with as a little drama as possible.

Fortunatly I was already well advanced on a project to install a mezzanine floor in the shed for storage, and in the last few days I built a staircase for easy access. See the pictures below. If, when I am asked to move, I cannot find a suitable place to rent, I could camp in the shed until something comes up.

A little more progress over the last fortnight. I just have a couple of my regulars working on the balustrades and wiring the balustrades. It looks SO much better to remove the plywood boarding around the "house deck". Meanwhile we approacing the completion of the landscaping features with the build of the balustrade. I am pleased with the detail we came up with to hover a piece of flat steel over the balustrade of the "boat deck", which is already being called the "Titanic".

Drone view - landscape update

We have added more earth to the shelf to make room for the garden railway. Steep slope planted to grass seed to bind soil and covered in hessian to prevent erosian. Soil has been added to rear gardens behind shed and house. Some natives and herbs planted. Sprinklers added to upper middle and lower garden as well as shelf rim, which you can see in some of these photos. Wood has arrived ready for framing, which is yet to commence.

August Drone Report

The framing is about 80% complete, after three and a half months. All of the sub-flooring is installed. The staircase goes all the way to the top now, with temporary bannister. The attic floor framing still needs completing as well as some frames internally on the first floor. The ground floor is done. We have decided to simply clad the whole building in structural ply, beyond the requirements. It helps protect the building for now as well as cut down on the wind inside. Temporary ply balustrades have been erected for safe access to all floors. I am often asked when the house will be finished. The answer is I do not know. Lock-up may be achieved by the end of the year, but I am not certain. A highlight is that we have finally finished the concreting around the house with the completion of the apron between the house and the shed. Benny our concretor did a great job.
