Cladding at front

The weather has turned mild which is nice, however our progress remains slow. In the last week and a half we finished the flashing for the big front windows, as well as clad the front ground floor with the Colorbond sheeting. We are now at 20% clad. With only one guy, on the job this week, Andy, my trusted labourer for over a year now, we have been looking for another guy with more experience in the roofing area to help speed things along. Supply of sheeting has been also delayed due to lack of delivery drivers I am told. So all round, labour is in short supply in this booming little town. These are pics from today, a dull day.

A little more progress over the last fortnight. I just have a couple of my regulars working on the balustrades and wiring the balustrades. It looks SO much better to remove the plywood boarding around the "house deck". Meanwhile we approacing the completion of the landscaping features with the build of the balustrade. I am pleased with the detail we came up with to hover a piece of flat steel over the balustrade of the "boat deck", which is already being called the "Titanic".

Mucking around on the boat deck

I am back from a couple of days in Goomburra for long time friend Greg's 70th birthday, and headed up to the block Christmas morning. With the boat deck largely completed I tossed the drone into the air to take a few pictures. For a fleeting moment a nautical film about an unseaworthy boat popped into my head, but I forget it's name... Off to John and Jan's this afternoon for a Californian & Australian Christmas.

The framing is about 80% complete, after three and a half months. All of the sub-flooring is installed. The staircase goes all the way to the top now, with temporary bannister. The attic floor framing still needs completing as well as some frames internally on the first floor. The ground floor is done. We have decided to simply clad the whole building in structural ply, beyond the requirements. It helps protect the building for now as well as cut down on the wind inside. Temporary ply balustrades have been erected for safe access to all floors. I am often asked when the house will be finished. The answer is I do not know. Lock-up may be achieved by the end of the year, but I am not certain. A highlight is that we have finally finished the concreting around the house with the completion of the apron between the house and the shed. Benny our concretor did a great job.
