Stop Press - the cladding has started!

At last we begun the cladding today. Only 5% of the house covered today. We should have a fair whack done by the end of June. That would be so good to see, as the blue sarking is a bit of an eyesore on the side of the hill visible to about 4,000 of my fellow inhabitants living north of the municipal refuse facility.

We are tackling the easist bit first, being on the ground floor and under the deck. Beautiful sunny winter day today, but the winds are picking up over the next few days, which may be a problem.

A little more progress over the last fortnight. I just have a couple of my regulars working on the balustrades and wiring the balustrades. It looks SO much better to remove the plywood boarding around the "house deck". Meanwhile we approacing the completion of the landscaping features with the build of the balustrade. I am pleased with the detail we came up with to hover a piece of flat steel over the balustrade of the "boat deck", which is already being called the "Titanic".

Mucking around on the boat deck

I am back from a couple of days in Goomburra for long time friend Greg's 70th birthday, and headed up to the block Christmas morning. With the boat deck largely completed I tossed the drone into the air to take a few pictures. For a fleeting moment a nautical film about an unseaworthy boat popped into my head, but I forget it's name... Off to John and Jan's this afternoon for a Californian & Australian Christmas.

The framing is about 80% complete, after three and a half months. All of the sub-flooring is installed. The staircase goes all the way to the top now, with temporary bannister. The attic floor framing still needs completing as well as some frames internally on the first floor. The ground floor is done. We have decided to simply clad the whole building in structural ply, beyond the requirements. It helps protect the building for now as well as cut down on the wind inside. Temporary ply balustrades have been erected for safe access to all floors. I am often asked when the house will be finished. The answer is I do not know. Lock-up may be achieved by the end of the year, but I am not certain. A highlight is that we have finally finished the concreting around the house with the completion of the apron between the house and the shed. Benny our concretor did a great job.
